Endodontics
Endodontics is concerned with the pulp pathology of the teeth at the nerve endings through the emptying, disinfection, and shaping of the canals and their successive filling with proper materials. A well done procedure avoids the development of the periapical lesions due to the infection of the root.
The use of the operating microscope in endodontics brings about the following advantages:
- It allows for the accurate evaluation of the endodontic anatomy, assuring a complete cleaning, and avoiding the damage which is easily provoked working in extremely small areas which are usually poor lit lighten by traditional lamps. The deep disinfection of the canal system is also obtained by the use of the laser, thereby reducing the number of failures.
- It speeds up the healing process of periapical lesions.
A perfect one step endodontic treatment can be done with a higher rate of success and very low rate of post-op complications.
In the case of teeth already treated it is possible to perform a better root removing calcifications, broken instruments, or repairing root perforations in teeth that were previously considered hopeless.
