Training and Research

EXCELLENCE DENTAL NETWORK, to guarantee the indispensable training and updating of the doctors of the Network, draws on the experience and professionalism of the Institute of Research and Training (IRF) in Microdentistry of Florence – ECM Provider at the Ministry of Health no. 12407 – which has already been engaged for some time in an scientific information activity involving doctors from all over the world.
The training activities are also the first step for the creation of a methodological approach common to the dental activity of the Network.

EDN, basing itself on the IRF, promotes a POST-GRADUATE MASTER COURSE for training young dentists all over the world in the spirit and the knowledge of the standards of excellence of the Network. The Master Course provides frontal theoretical didactic activity, with traditional supports (such as slides and recorded video projections) and live lessons on patients with closed circuit video and the possibility of live interaction, asking questions and getting immediate replies. In addition practical activities with patients and advanced simulation systems are provided.
Specific training activity is provided on the following clinical-management and communication procedures:

  • use of the operating microscope;
  • use of the high-power laser;
  • use of intra-oral and panoramic digital radiology;
  • technologies and techniques for tissue engineering;
  • new molecular biology diagnostic methods;
  • use of DENTAL-NET® Software;
  • analytical accounting;
  • management control;
  • effective doctor-patient communication;
  • marketing strategies;

On demand: training for the attainment and maintenance of the quality system.

For the EXCELLENCE DENTAL NETWORK, IRF organises PERIODIC UPDATING WORKSHOPS for affiliated doctors on clinical and management topics, encouraging exchanges of experience and working methods between colleagues of different nationalities.

For newly affiliated medical personnel who have not taken part in the Post-Graduate Master Course, in order to guarantee the standards of excellence and quality that characterise the Network, affiliation guarantees the right to receive a period of INTENSIVE PREPARATORY TRAINING, which is held in the Microdentistry centre in Florence, either full or part time, depending on individual programmes which vary according to the initial level of knowledge of each individual dentist.
In a period varying from 20 to 30 days, therefore, according to the entry level of the doctor, an intensive theoretical and practical training is carried out in the use of the operating microscope and the high-power laser.

In addition, every year the doctors of the Network, thanks to their affiliation, have the opportunity to participate in a SPECIALISATION COURSE held bi-weekly by internationally famed teachers, on the following areas of specialisation:

  • ENDODONTICS
  • CONSERVATIVE DENTISTRY
  • PERIODONTOLOGY

RESEARCH

In Italy the presence is recorded of 2,643,000 people affected by diabetes, with a prevalence of 4.5%, according to data gathered in the Annals of Diabetology AMD 2006, supplemented by Istat statistics. The World Health Organisation forecasts that in 20 years nearly one Italian out of ten will be diabetic.

EXCELLENCE DENTAL NETWORK, through the IRF in Microdentistry, is developing an important, revolutionary SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH PROJECT, which starts from the demonstrated correlation between periodontitis and diabetes (strong predisposition of diabetics to periodontal diseases and greater difficulty of glycemic metabolic control if untreated), will go to verify through a study protocol if the treatment of the periodontitis (diagnosed through the innovative integrated microbiological and genetic test by the BIOMOLECULAR DIAGNOSTIC Laboratory and treated with high-power laser) produces an improvement in the control of metabolic parameters in diabetic patients with the aim of obtaining a significant improvement in the quality of life of diabetic patients and a resulting optimisation of national health spending.
